ABOUT FILEMAKERPRO [+]
How do I use the new ODBC import capability in FileMaker Pro with my enterprise database systems?

  1. After setting up ODBC (below), launch FileMakerPro and select File->Open and then choose "Show: ODBC" from the bottom of the File dialog. Then choose a SQL database (ODBC data source). Click here for a somewhat dated example.

  2. Before you can use an ODBC-aware application like FileMakerPro to access your SQL database(s), you must first tell your PC or Mac about the SQL databases (ODBC data sources) you want to use.

    • Windows
    • Click Start->Run and enter http://odbcrouter.com/m/ODSETUP.EXE to download and install the ODBC ROUTER driver for Windows. Next, open the ODBC Control Panel, select the iODBC.NET driver and click "Add". When the Setup dialog opens, enter the IP address (or DNS name) of your network's ODBC ROUTER and Connect to see a list of available SQL databases. Choose one and you're ready to go!

    • Mac OS X
    • First download and install the iODBC.NET driver for Mac OS X.

      • FileMakerPro 8.x
      • On Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.7), select "Go->Utilities" from Finder, open the "ODBC Administrator" application select the "UserDSN" tab and click "Add". Choose "iODBCNET" and click "Ok". Enter the IP address or DNS name of your network's ODBC ROUTER and click Refresh to see a list of available SQL databases. Choose one and you're ready to go!

      • FileMakerPro 6.x, 7.x
      • Enable ODBC support in FileMaker Pro 6 and 7 by selecting "Go->Applications" from Finder, opening the "Data Direct ODBC" folder and launching the ODBC installer. (If you do not see the "Data Direct ODBC" folder, please run the "FileMaker ODBC Drivers" installer off the FileMakerPro CD or "dmg".)

Next, select "Go->Applications" from Finder again, open the "Data Direct ODBC" folder and launch "ODBC Configure". Select the "UserDSN" tab and click "Add". Choose "iODBCNET" or "AUGUST OverDriver" and click "Ok". Enter the IP address or DNS name of your network's ODBC ROUTER and click Refresh to see a list of available SQL databases. Choose one and you're ready to go!

    • Mac OS Classic
      • FileMakerPro 4.1, 4.2 (only)
      • First download and install an ODBC Driver Manager.

      • FileMakerPro 5.0 (but not 5.5)
      • First see these special instructions.

      • FileMakerPro 6.0, 5.x. and 4.x
      • Download and install OverDRIVER

Next, open the "ODBC Configure" (or "ODBC 3.51 Control Panel") and "Add" a new "AUGSOFT OverDriver™" data source, entering the IP address or DNS name of your network's ODBC ROUTER and clicking Refresh to see a list of available SQL databases. Choose one and you're ready to go!
